Four‑million euro bid targets Club Brugge’s Zaid Romero for Getafe
Getafe have agreed a four‑million‑euro fee to sign Club Brugge central defender Zaid Romero permanently, pending a medical examination. The Argentine’s contract with the Belgian side runs until the summer of 2028, making the fee a significant early‑exit cost for both clubs.
Last season Romero managed only six league starts for Club Brugge, far below expectations for a player priced at six million euros. In his second campaign he faced competition from Brandon Mechele and Joel Ordonez, and costly mistakes saw his standing drop. A mistake in the second matchday against KV Mechelen led to a prolonged absence from the squad.
Romero also suffered a back injury that kept him sidelined for months. Coach Ivan Leko chose not to reinstate him after his return at Jan Breydel Stadium, limiting him to just 59 minutes of play during that period. Despite limited action, his contract with Club Brugge remains valid until the summer of 2028.
A winter move to his former club Estudiantes de la Plata was negotiated but ultimately fell through, directing him to Spanish side Getafe. At Getafe he appeared in fifteen LaLiga matches and recorded one goal. His market value rose modestly to around 2.5 million euros, while other Spanish clubs also expressed interest. Getafe’s four‑million‑euro offer reflects their intention to secure Romero permanently, subject to a medical test. If completed, the deal would see the defender leave Club Brugge well before his 2028 contract expiry, highlighting the growing demand for his profile.
