Germany crushes Curaçao 7-1 in World Cup opener
Germany beat Curaçao 7-1 in their World Cup Group E opener in Houston on Sunday. Curaçao scored its first-ever World Cup goal.
Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead, and Livano Comenencia equalised when his shot deflected past Manuel Neuer.
Nico Schlotterbeck restored the German lead with a header, and Kai Havertz converted a penalty after Nmecha was fouled in the Curaçao box.
Jamal Musiala scored two minutes into the second half, and Germany added three more goals as the match turned into a rout.
The win moves Germany closer to the knockout rounds of the expanded tournament, while Curaçao remain group underdogs needing improbable results to reach the Round of 32.
