Germany thumps Curaçao 7-1 in World Cup
Germany defeated Curaçao 7-1 at Houston Stadium in a FIFA World Cup group match. Nmecha scored the opening goal for Germany, while Commenencia equalised for Curaçao at the 26th minute of the first half. Germany then extended the lead through Schlotterbeck, Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav and Havertz, who scored twice.
The win lifted Germany to three points and the top of Group E. Curaçao, the smallest nation ever to play at a World Cup with 158,000 inhabitants, celebrated the historic goal despite the loss. Ivory Coast and Ecuador, the other Group E teams, will face each other at Philadelphia Stadium on Sunday.
The second round pits Germany against Ivory Coast on the 20th and Ecuador against Curaçao later that day. Commentator Galvão Bueno described the match as a rout.
