Harry Maguire Excluded from England World Cup Squad

Harry Maguire, the 33-year-old Manchester United defender, confirmed via social media that he is not part of England's World Cup squad. He described himself as shocked and devastated by the decision.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel, a German, is set to reveal his 26‑man squad on Friday, with the omitted players having been informed on Thursday.

Maguire has been a mainstay in England's defence, featuring in every World Cup match in 2018 and 2022, and missed Euro 2024 through injury.

This season he made 24 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions.

His most recent England outings came in March, when he played against Uruguay and Japan.

In an emotional post, Maguire said he had full confidence that he could have contributed significantly this summer after a solid club season, and that wearing the England shirt has always been his greatest honour. He wished his fellow players the best for the tournament.
