Getafe pushes for Sancho – Ex‑BVB star could soon sign a contract

FC Getafe has officially confirmed that it is in talks with the unattached offensive player Jadon Sancho, who has been without a club since the end of June. The 26‑year‑old former BVB star, whose contract with Manchester United has expired, is said by President Angel Torres to receive clarity on a possible signing already next week at Movistar.

Contract status and previous clubs

Sancho left Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for an €85 million departure and moved to Manchester United, where he did not receive a new contract at the end of the last season. During his time at United he completed loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa, which however did not bring a lasting breakthrough.

The English winger was active on loan at Borussia Dortmund from 2017 to 2021 and again in the second half of the 2023/24 season. Despite repeated speculation about a return to the BVB, Dortmund ultimately looked elsewhere, and contacts with other clubs fell through.

Getafe as a possible new employer

Getafe, sitting 14th in LaLiga after eight matchdays, is led by coach José Bordalás. Should Sancho sign, he would join former Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal, who recently also arrived at the Spanish top‑flight club.

The club has already signaled interest and sees Sancho as a solution to the offensive‑technical deficit that coach Bordalás publicly described as the “only team without a right winger”. Getafe is also considering the signing of Dani Parejo, but Sancho remains, according to Torres, the top priority.

Financially, Getafe is limited by the LaLiga Fair Play threshold. Similar to Carvajal, a special LaLiga approval procedure could be used to enable the signing without a transfer fee.

In Portugal, the newspaper "" reported that Sancho was bought by United for £73 million (approximately €85 million) and recorded 83 appearances, 12 goals and six assists for the Red Devils. Getafe plans to use the English winger as a new “Mason Greenwood” to increase offensive firepower.
