Godts shines as a substitute, Kvaratskhelia remains a pillar of support

Mika Godts came on Monday evening as a substitute for Paris Saint-Germain and delivered a goal and an assist in the home victory over Olympique Lyon. In doing so the Belgian played a crucial role despite the absence of injured Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Ligue 1.

Opening goal and second strike

The opening goal came via a simple pass from Godts to Senny Mayulu, who opened the scoring with a hard shot. Godts' role in that play was described by him himself as not particularly remarkable.

The second strike was a piece of art from the Flemish striker; he scored it himself. In the mixed zone Godts explained: ‘When Quentin Ndjantou got the ball, I knew I would have the space. From then on it was one‑on‑one, I had the room to do what I wanted.’

Godts said it was nice to both score and provide an assist, exactly what a striker wants. What did it do to Godts, being important in a big match at the Parc des Princes? He emphasized that he had worked hard every day to be ready as soon as the coach needed him, and after his goal he thought of his family and wife.

He also spoke warm words for his Georgian teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who recently suffered a serious injury. ‘We want to help him. This victory is also for him,’ Godts said.

With that contribution Godts helped Paris Saint‑Germain to the 2‑0 home win over Olympique Lyon, a result that somewhat eased the absence of Kvaratskhelia.
