Halliday sees Chermiti and Naderi as Shankland’s ideal partners
Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday says Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi provide the perfect foil for incoming striker Lawrence Shankland at Rangers. The duo combined for 18 Rangers goals last term, a record that underlines their attacking partnership.
Throughout last season Chermiti and Naderi frequently linked up in the final third, forming a regular attacking partnership. Their chemistry was a key factor in Rangers' offensive strategy.
Lawrence Shankland is expected to join the Rangers' squad shortly after his participation with Scotland at the World Cup. The Scottish international's arrival adds a new dimension to the club's attacking options.
On the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast, Halliday explained, "In Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi, I think it's two perfect foils for Lawrence Shankland." He highlighted that both players possess physical profiles that complement Shankland's style.
Halliday added, "Two big athletic players with physical profiles who can do a bit more running than Lawrence Shankland probably can." This suggests the pair can provide width and work rate beyond the target man’s capabilities.
He continued, "And it allows Lawrence Shankland to stay in the penalty box and in between the goal frame where he's such a threat." According to Halliday, this dynamic will free Shankland to focus on finishing chances inside the box.
