Harrogate's hunt for a specialist right‑back ends with Payne signing
Harrogate Town have secured the signing of 22‑year‑old Lewis Payne, a right‑back who most recently featured for Morecambe after beginning his career at Southampton. Payne arrived after netting four goals in 33 National League appearances for the Shrimps last season.
Simon Weaver said the club has been chasing Lewis Payne all summer. He added that Payne can add quality and expertise in a specialist position.
Payne began his professional journey with Southampton and later gained Football League experience on loan at Newport and Cheltenham. He spent loan periods with Newport and Cheltenham in the Football League.
At Morecambe, Payne made 33 National League appearances and scored four goals last season. He operated primarily as a right‑back for the Shrimps.
Harrogate Town announced the signing on the club website. The length of Payne's contract has not been disclosed.
With the contract term undisclosed, the duration of his stay remains unclear. The club expects his specialist abilities to strengthen the right flank as the campaign unfolds.
