Harry Kane denies England over‑reliance after 0‑0 Ghana draw

Harry Kane rejected England rely excessively on him for goals after the team were held to a 0‑0 draw with Ghana in their World Cup group match. The captain missed a late chance that went over the bar, having previously scored two goals in a 4‑2 win over Croatia. Kane has 81 international goals, more than the rest of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad combined. When he missed the March fixtures against Uruguay and Japan, England managed only one goal in 180 minutes. After the match, Kane said, "I don’t think there is an over‑reliance," emphasizing that fine margins are part of tournament football. He added that any No 9 at a big team is expected to score, and when they don’t, questions arise. Kane said he caught up with former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for coffee at England’s base camp in Kansas City. "I just caught up for a coffee, we were talking about life," he recalled. Brady was opening a card store in Kansas and asked about the England squad and Bayern Munich. A few other players also stopped by to speak with him. The 0‑0 draw left England needing a win against Panama to keep their knockout hopes alive, with Group L set to finish on Saturday. England remain in contention to advance as leaders, runners‑up or a top‑third‑placed side.
