Heerenveen secures Darling Bladi, adds depth to left‑back line
SC Heerenveen announced its first summer signing, 22‑year‑old French left back Darling Bladi, arriving from Real Betis on a three‑year contract with an option for a fourth season at the Abe Lenstra Stadion. The club confirmed the deal today, marking the first addition to its squad in the current transfer window.
Bladi, 22, left France to join Spanish side Real Betis after the club secured his services on a free transfer from Saint‑Étienne a year ago. The French defender arrived at the Andalusian club having previously played in the French league system.
During his spell at Betis, Bladi made a single senior appearance, entering the Copa del Rey match against Atlético Palma del Río CF for a few minutes. He also featured on the first‑team bench on several occasions, while his competitive minutes were confined to the reserve side.
Heerenveen has not disclosed the amount paid to Real Betis for the transfer.
In Friesland, Bladi will compete for the left‑back role with Vasilios Zagaritis, who finished last season as the undisputed starter in that position. Heerenveen entered the campaign without another specialist left back besides Zagaritis.
Bladi signed a three‑year deal that includes an option for an additional season, tying him to the Abe Lenstra Stadion until at least 2027. The club expects his physical strength and speed to add both defensive solidity and attacking impetus to the flank.
