Inter director calls Onana deal club’s biggest profit
Piero Ausilio, director of FC Internazionale, said the €50 million transfer of André Onana to Manchester United in 2023 was probably the best deal in the club’s history. He highlighted that Onana arrived on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2022 and left after one season for an enormous fee. The comment was made during a podcast with Italian presenter Alessandro Cattelan.
During his single season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, André Onana won the Italian Supercoppa and the Coppa Italia and helped Inter reach the UEFA Champions League Final. A photo by Alexander Hassenstein captures Onana celebrating after teammate Lautaro Martinez scores in the Champions League semi‑final second leg against AC Milan. Ausilio suggested the capital gain from the Onana deal may be the highest in Inter’s history, only rivaled by the Ibrahimovic transfer.
Ausilio also addressed Inter’s upcoming transfer strategy, confirming that Denzel Dumfries is set to move to Real Madrid while Nicolò Barella remains off the market. The remarks were illustrated by a picture taken by Alessandro Sabattini of Ausilio during a Serie A match between Verona and Inter. No further details on future deals were provided.
