Jorge Jesus explains why Ronaldo stayed on the bench against Norway

Jesus explained that he had considered bringing Ronaldo on, but the course of the match and the strong performance of Gonçalo Ramos determined the decision. “I didn’t think it was the right moment to bring Ronaldo on, but that was not to spare him physically,” he said on Portugal’s public broadcaster. “He was fit enough to play as long as I wanted.”

Jesus also indicated that in the second half he introduced players such as Vitinha, Rúben Neves and Bernardo Silva, but that there was a need for a balance keeper. He noted that Ronaldo can “just” start again in the next match against Denmark, should the situation allow it.
