Jose Mourinho drives Real Madrid’s aggressive summer signings

Real Madrid announced the signing of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea and confirmed the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate. The moves mark a rapid shift in the club’s transfer activity following the recent presidential election. Jose Mourinho is credited with reshaping the approach. Historically Real Madrid built squads from a club‑centred perspective, adapting coaches to a long‑term plan. This summer the club gave Mourinho a decisive voice in recruitment, allowing his preferences to shape deals. Mourinho personally pushed for Dumfries, securing the defender for €20 million after identifying him in early June. He also contacted Silva directly, elevating the Portuguese midfielder to the centrepiece of the strategy. The Cucurella deal, valued at around €55 million, was finalised within a day and a half after Mourinho indicated his choice over Josko Gvardiol, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie. By granting Mourinho the tools to implement his style, Real Madrid are betting heavily on the Portuguese coach delivering a swift return to winning ways.
