José Mourinho signs two-year deal with Real Madrid

José Mourinho has agreed to become head coach of Real Madrid. The club will pay a buyout of roughly €15 million to release him from his contract with Benfica, which ran to 2027. Benfica confirmed the €15 million figure in an official statement and noted that Mourinho’s contract with them was set to expire in 2027. A report citing insider Ramon Alvarez de Mon said the new agreement gives Mourinho a two‑year term with an option for a third year, and his salary is reported at about €12 million gross per season, lower than the €16 million‑plus he earned in his first year at Benfica. President Florentino Pérez announced the appointment after his re‑election, and Mourinho will replace Álvaro Arbeloa, who took charge after Alonso was dismissed. The 63‑year‑old previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013.
