Julián Álvarez wants Atlético exit; Barcelona, Real bid

Argentine forward Julián Álvarez announced he wants to leave Atlético Madrid after Argentina’s match against Austria in the World Cup on Monday, 22 June, saying a transfer is best for his future. He added that he spoke honestly with the club and wants to fulfill his dreams. Álvarez told reporters, “I spoke honestly with the club. I want to fulfill my dreams. The best thing for my future is a transfer,” after Argentina’s World Cup match against Austria. He emphasized his desire to move on. Transfer specialist journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Álvarez’s preferred destination is Barcelona. Jacobs said the Argentine forward has expressed a desire to join the Catalan club. According to Jacobs, Barcelona’s earlier €100 million bid for Álvarez was turned down by Atlético Madrid. The rejected offer underscores the club’s reluctance to sell the player for that amount. At the end of May, Atlético Madrid publicly mocked Barcelona’s alleged interest. The club posted on social media that it had made offers for Barça youngsters Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Raphinha. In early June, Real Madrid released an official statement claiming it had submitted a €150 million offer for Álvarez. The claim was met with disdain by Atlético, which again used its social channels to taunt the rival. Atlético’s response highlighted its frustration with both Spanish giants’ pursuit of the Argentine forward. The club’s social media posts continued to ridicule the offers, maintaining its firm stance on retaining Álvarez.
