Kaj Sierhuis calls NEC move a step up in Eredivisie

Twenty‑eight‑year‑old striker Kaj Sierhuis has joined NEC on a free transfer from Fortuna Sittard, with the club unveiling him this week. The Dutch forward describes the move as a “beautiful step up” within the Eredivisie, adding that his skill set matches the club’s attacking philosophy.

The transfer was completed without a fee, allowing NEC to bolster their attacking options at no cost. Sierhuis arrived at NEC as a free agent after terminating his contract with Fortuna Sittard.

Speaking to , Sierhuis said, "Ik ken het stadion, ik ken de sfeer. Dat heeft ook een rol gespeeld." He added that familiarity with the venue helped seal his decision.

He also praised coach Dick Schreuder’s attacking approach, noting, "Met mijn kwaliteiten als spits, plus het aanvallende spel van NEC denk ik dat ik goed van pas kan komen. Een mooie stap omhoog binnen de Eredivisie."

The striker highlighted the club’s goal‑tune, nicknamed ‘Japapa’, as a quirky factor, saying, "Als je dat als goaltune hebt, dan wil je die zo vaak mogelijk in het seizoen horen." He explained, "Ik houd van kleine details, zoals een goaltune. Het hele stadion gaat hier erop aan. Daar ga ik wel goed op."

Sierhuis expects to operate as a deep‑lying striker, stating, "Ik ben hier gehaald als diepe spits, dat is veruit mijn beste positie." He believes the squad will provide service, adding, "Er zijn hier heel veel spelers die mij hier goed kunnen bedienen. Daar richt ik mij op en vanuit daar ga ik mijn best doen."
