Kieft urges Malen's last chance vs Tunisia

Dutch legend Wim Kieft has urged Donyell Malen to start against Tunisia in Oranje’s third group game. Kieft argues Malen deserves a final audition after two substitute appearances at the World Cup. The former striker praised Kylian Mbappé as ‘the best player at the tournament right now,’ highlighting his energy and joy on the pitch. Kieft contrasted Mbappé’s form with Malen’s struggles, noting the Roma forward has scored 14 goals in 18 Serie A games this season. ‘Netherlands thought they had their own Kylian Mbappé in Malen before the World Cup,’ Kieft said. ‘He was in top form at AS Roma, scoring regularly, and was expected to replicate that for Oranje.’ Kieft warned Malen risks following the path from striker to winger to substitute if he doesn’t impress against Tunisia. He added that Malen’s confidence may be low but stressed there are only two World Cup games played so far. ‘Koeman could desperately need Malen later in this tournament,’ Kieft said. ‘It would be good for him to score one against Tunisia.’ Malen has played just 30 minutes at the World Cup so far, having been substituted at half-time against Sweden. His last start for Oranje came in a pre-World Cup friendly. Kieft’s comments come as Oranje have already qualified for the knockout stages. The team faces Tunisia in their final group match.
