Koeman flags Saibari threat ahead of Morocco clash
Ronald Koeman has identified Morocco’s Ismael Saibari as a key threat ahead of the Netherlands’ last-16 World Cup tie. Speaking after Oranje’s 1-3 win over Tunisia, Koeman told reporters that Saibari’s form in the Dutch league demands attention.
The Dutch head coach stressed that Morocco play an attacking style with technical players operating between the lines. “I don’t know if we’re the favourites against Morocco,” Koeman said. “They are a strong team that plays attacking football. Many technical players and players between the lines.”
Koeman singled out Saibari, who has impressed in the Eredivisie. “A player like Saibari we know very well from the Dutch league. Scoring goals there isn’t that hard,” he said. “But doing it on this stage changes things. He’s definitely a player we need to keep a close eye on.”
The Oranje boss also outlined tactical adjustments for the Morocco game. “Every team has weaknesses and Morocco is no different. We’ll discuss those with the players who can exploit them,” he explained. “But it’s clear you have to stand well and press quickly when they have the ball. Both in tempo and positional changes we need to improve. At times we must also be more compact without the ball. Overall we did well in the group. Now we’re really being tested.”
