Lamine Yamal vows Spain will prove themselves after 0‑0 draw

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal said after Spain’s goalless draw with Cape Verde at the World Cup that the team will “show who we are” and aim for a victory against Saudi Arabia on Sunday, reinforcing confidence despite the frustrating start. The 0‑0 result was one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, as many had expected Spain to secure a comfortable win. Cape Verde delivered a disciplined, organised performance that frustrated Luis de la Fuente’s side from the first whistle. Attention now turns to Sunday’s clash with Saudi Arabia, where Spain hope to claim their first win of the competition. A positive result would reinforce their status as one of the favourites to challenge for the trophy. Yamal entered the tournament nursing a recent hamstring injury, prompting a cautious management of his minutes. He was introduced against Cape Verde and featured only 19 minutes. Luis de la Fuente confirmed that Yamal is expected to feature for around 45 minutes in the upcoming match. The gradual increase is part of the plan to return the 18‑year‑old to full fitness. Speaking to Teledeporte after the draw, Yamal delivered his message to supporters. He said: “A message to everyone who supported us in the last match? On Sunday, we will go to achieve that victory, and of course, we will bring out our playing style and show who we are.” Yamal added that the squad will be together on July 19 and sent a hug to the fans. His confidence remained unshaken despite the disappointing start.
