Lens creates historic feat in Champions League in Prague
Racing Club de Lens made a spectacular comeback in the Champions League, winning 3-2 against Slavia Prague on the Prague pitch, thanks to two goals scored in stoppage time (90+1 and 90+3). Captain Florian Thauvin equalised in the 90+1 minute, before Ruben Aguilar delivered the finishing blow in the 90+3.
An unprecedented turnaround in added time
The Blood and Gold became the first team to win a Champions League match after being behind at the start of added time since the Borussia Dortmund–Malaga duel in 2013. This reversal surprised the Czechs, who had dominated the intensity of the game up to the 88th minute.
Slavia Prague, a European curse
Slavia Prague has not won a Champions League match since 2007, accumulating twenty matches without success, with seven draws and thirteen defeats. Since their first group match against Fotbal Club Steaua Bucharest, won 2-1 on 19 September 2007, the Prague side has never found victory.
A memorable page for RC Lens
This victory marks the first away success for RC Lens in the most prestigious European competition since November 1998, when they beat Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley. Such a turnaround is extremely rare for the Artois club, which thus writes one of the most astonishing pages of its European history.
In addition to the valuable qualification, the result ends a drought of more than a quarter of a century for the Lens fans, who finally regain the joy of an overseas victory. The Blood and Gold supporters celebrate this unexpected moment, while Slavia Prague sees its run of defeats in the Champions League lengthen.
