Leverkusen eyes PSV’s Dest after €25m Grimaldo sale
Bayer Leverkusen is set to cash in on left‑back Alejandro Grimaldo, with the 30‑year‑old expected to sign for Atlético Madrid this week for roughly €25 million. At the same time the German club is already scouting replacements, and PSV’s 25‑year‑old Sergino Dest has emerged as a leading candidate capable of covering both full‑back positions.
Grimaldo has been a key player for Die Werkself over the past three seasons. The €25 million fee will leave Leverkusen needing a new left‑back promptly.
Dest, who can operate on either flank, is under contract with PSV Eindhoven for another two years. The United States international previously featured for AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Ajax before joining PSV.
also lists Raphaël Guerreiro, Arsène Kouassi and Konstantinos Mavropanos as possible targets. Guerreiro will leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer, while Kouassi is contracted to Lorient and Mavropanos to West Ham United.
Leverkusen’s last summer’s activity in Eindhoven saw Malik Tillman arrive for just over €30 million. Tillman, like Dest, is currently representing the United States at the World Cup.
The German side must finalize its defensive recruitment before the new campaign begins. Should Dest move to Leverkusen, he would provide immediate depth on both sides of the back line.
