Lewis Steele says Liverpool not pursuing Micky van de Ven

On the Media Matters podcast from Anfield Index, Liverpool analyst Lewis Steele clarified that Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is not currently a live target for Liverpool, despite earlier rumours linking the Premier League club with the Dutch centre‑back. He said the speculation appears to be driven by the player's agent rather than genuine interest, and that Liverpool's defensive priorities remain uncertain. Dave Davis framed the discussion by referencing reports from Holland about “Liverpool or Barcelona” interest in van de Ven, while also noting that other journalists had pushed back on the claim. He quoted Alex Crook and Fabrizio Romano as having shot the claim down. Steele said, “We’ve seen the Van de Ven stuff but it doesn’t sound like that’s a go.” He added the noise may be driven by the player’s agent, noting van de Ven shares an agent with a couple of Liverpool players, or Gravenberch. Steele affirmed Liverpool still need a centre‑back but the market is quiet. He cited Ibrahima Konaté’s departure, uncertainty over Leon’s fitness after a year out, and doubts about Jeremy Jacquet’s adaptation to the Premier League. When asked about Crystal Palace defender Max Lacroix, Steele said he has neither confirmed nor denied interest, adding Liverpool had looked at him in the past. Steele concluded that while defensive depth is a priority, van de Ven does not appear to be a serious current pursuit. He described the speculation as “noise” rather than an active transfer target. The conversation also touched on the club’s headline pursuit of Yan Diomande.
