Liverpool and Manchester United chase RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare
Manchester United are preparing a formal offer for RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare. Liverpool are also reported to be monitoring Sangare as a potential signing.
Sangare, 22, was signed by RC Lens for €8m last summer. He made 29 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He led the division in tackles and ranked among Europe’s best for ball recoveries, helping Lens finish second in Ligue 1, six points behind Paris Saint Germain.
Dominic King previously reported that Liverpool would be aware of Sangare. The midfielder’s profile—aggressive, progressive in transition and tactically disciplined—matches the demands of the Premier League. Under new head coach Andoni Iraola, Liverpool expect midfield energy and tactical aggression.
About ten clubs are reportedly tracking Sangare. The expected transfer of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City could inflate prices further. "United’s interest is currently described as the most concrete, with the Old Trafford hierarchy readying a proposal," the report says.
Sangare’s reported valuation starts at €40m, and Foot Mercato suggest any eventual fee could rise significantly higher with formal competition.
Liverpool’s recruitment team faces pressure to act early to avoid strengthening a direct rival. Delayed negotiations rarely benefit clubs with structured recruitment models.
