Liverpool join European giants in chase for Newcastle's Guimaraes

Liverpool are listed among the clubs eyeing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, whose nine goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions last season underline his Premier League consistency. The Brazilian, 28, will see his contract with St. James' Park expire in the summer of 2028, complicating a potential cut‑price deal for the Reds this off‑season.

Liverpool will face stiff competition for Guimaraes, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona also reported as interested. Journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land the Brazilian talent this summer.

Guimaraes is praised for his defensive instincts, regularly winning back possession inside his own half. He combines tidy passing with the ability to strike the ball powerfully from distance, while his vision creates chances for teammates.

His versatility allows him to operate as a box‑to‑box midfielder or drop into a holding role when required. The Brazilian’s dribbling skill and Premier League experience further enhance his profile.

Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool could benefit from Guimaraes’ addition, adding quality and depth to the squad’s midfield. Iraola is expected to give the 28‑year‑old a realistic chance to earn a regular starting place and help the club pursue major trophies in coming seasons.

A recent photograph shows Guimaraes wearing Brazil’s number 8 during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C match against Morocco on 13 June 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The image, captured by Dan Mullan for Getty Images, highlights the midfielder’s international profile.
