Liverpool set to trigger £55m buy-back for Jarell Quansah

Liverpool have reached personal terms with centre-back Jarell Quansah. The club also holds a buy‑back clause valued at roughly £55 million for the player. Agreeing personal terms removes the wage and contract negotiations typically required in a transfer. Liverpool would therefore need only decide whether to activate the buy‑back option. Quansah left Liverpool for Bayer Leverkusen to secure regular first‑team football. The 23‑year‑old defender has continued to impress at Leverkusen despite managerial changes. His progress has been closely monitored by Liverpool. Liverpool are reviewing centre‑back options after the departure of Ibrahima Konate. Quansah has emerged as a familiar target amid that search. During his previous spell at Liverpool, Quansah made 58 senior appearances. He scored three goals, lifted the League Cup and contributed to a Premier League title‑winning campaign. Quansah helped England win the European Under‑21 Championship against Germany. He has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Quansah said his move away from Liverpool was driven by a desire for playing time. He added that the Bundesliga and Champions League offered top‑level competition. If Liverpool activate the buy‑back clause, the pre‑agreed personal terms would streamline the transaction. The club will assess whether the defender fits its defensive plans in the coming months.
