Liverpool target Adam Wharton as midfield revamp looms

Liverpool sporting director Richard HUGHES is prioritising midfield reinforcements this summer as the club seeks to address underperformance. Hughes faces pressure after Liverpool’s high-spending squad underachieved last season. Liverpool are monitoring Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Adam WHARTON as a key target. A report via journalist Matteo MORRETTO claims Liverpool have a strong interest in signing Wharton. Morretto stated: 'Adam Wharton to Liverpool... they tell me yes. Liverpool wants him, a lot.' Wharton has been praised by Pep GUARDIOLA as an 'excellent' player. The Englishman is considered one of Crystal Palace’s standout performers in the Premier League. His profile fits Liverpool’s need for a natural defensive midfielder. Liverpool’s midfield issues include inconsistent form from Alexis MAC ALLISTER and Ryan GRAVENBERCH. Curtis JONES is also a potential departure, increasing the urgency for midfield upgrades. A fee for Wharton has not been disclosed. Manchester City’s £120 million bid for Wharton was rejected by Nottingham Forest, highlighting his value. His arrival would allow Gravenberch to move into a more advanced role. Hughes must finalise Liverpool’s transfer plans before the summer window opens. Wharton remains the club’s top midfield priority.
