Lucumí’s World Cup focus: Juventus talks on hold until after tournament

Bologna defender Jhon Lucumí has ruled out discussing his future until after the World Cup, despite Juventus’ reported interest in the Colombian centre-back.

Lucumí, who has played 152 matches for Bologna since joining in 2022, confirmed he remains focused on Colombia’s World Cup campaign. The Bianconeri have been in recent talks with Bologna over a potential deal, but the 28-year-old insists the timing is wrong.

“It’s not the time to discuss such matters,” Lucumí told . “When I return to Italy, we’ll calmly talk about everything.” His contract with Bologna expires in June 2027, but Juventus appear reluctant to meet his €28m release clause.

Lucumí joined Bologna from Genk in 2022 for an €8m fee. Since then, he has made 152 appearances for the Rossoblu, scoring two goals and winning the Coppa Italia in 2024-25. His leadership at the back has been a key factor in Bologna’s defensive stability.

Colombia’s World Cup run continues with a Round of 16 clash against Switzerland. Lucumí described the atmosphere as “like playing at home,” adding that the team’s sole objective is to win.

Juventus have explored a player-plus-cash swap deal involving Fabio Miretti to meet Bologna’s valuation. However, Lucumí’s refusal to engage now complicates negotiations.

The defender’s stance leaves Juventus with limited options if they are serious about signing him this summer. His contract situation means he could leave on a free transfer next year, but Bologna may prefer an upfront fee.

Lucumí’s next move will depend on Colombia’s World Cup progress. If they advance, discussions may resume after the tournament.
