Madagascar clinches opening Afrobasket U18 win over Gabon

Madagascar secured the opening victory of the Afrobasket U18 tournament with a last‑second three‑point shot, edging Gabon and giving the Grande Île an early advantage in the competition. Madagascar imposed its initiative from the first minutes, finishing the opening quarter ahead 19‑17 after a brief exchange of baskets. The early lead reflected the team's aggressive start and efficient shooting.

Gabon answered strongly, narrowing the gap and eventually taking the lead in the second quarter. Daryll Mbiguis and Ray Biyamba posted the highest efficiency scores for the Central African side, propelling Gabon to a 37‑27 halftime advantage.
