Málaga bus stoned before Almería clash, kick-off delayed to 21:30

The promotion playoff between UD Almería and Málaga CF began with serious trouble after Málaga’s team bus was stoned by radical supporters outside the stadium. Several windows were shattered by the impact despite a heavy police presence deployed to secure the journey. The Málaga delegation remained locked inside the vehicle for 51 minutes due to safety concerns.

The match, part of the First Division promotion playoff, was consequently delayed and will now kick off at 21:30 local time. The incident occurred ahead of the decisive fixture that will determine which team secures the final top-flight promotion spot.

Local authorities confirmed the large police operation was in place to prevent further disturbances. The stoning took place upon the bus’s arrival at UD Almería Stadium, with radical elements targeting the vehicle before the game.

Málaga CF officials declined immediate public comment following the security incident. The club’s delegation was kept in the bus for over 50 minutes before being allowed to enter the stadium under escort.

UD Almería’s stadium management stated that additional security measures were activated following the attack on the bus. The delayed kick-off was announced shortly after the incident was brought under control.

The playoff match is the second leg of the promotion final, with the first leg having concluded in a draw. The winner will earn promotion to the First Division for the upcoming season.
