Málaga return to La Liga after eight-year absence with playoff win
Málaga returned to Spain’s top flight after eight years away with a 2-1 aggregate win over Almería in the Segunda División promotion play-offs. The Andalusian side drew 0-0 at home last Sunday before winning 1-2 away on Saturday evening.
The victory secured Málaga’s place in La Liga for the 2024-25 season. The club last competed in the top division in the 2015-16 campaign.
Málaga dominated the second leg, with their away goal proving decisive. The team had not featured in La Liga since suffering relegation eight years ago.
