Maldini, Leonardo and Malagò steer Italy's coach shortlist
Italy is set to name a new head coach within days, as FIGC President Giovanni Malagò meets technical director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo today to finalise a shortlist of candidates, the report says. The meeting, expected to shape the selection process, comes after recent managerial changes and upcoming friendlies.
Former Milan teammate Gennaro Gattuso resigned after Italy failed to secure World Cup qualification in March. Silvio Baldini has been appointed temporarily for friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece in June.
Until yesterday, Antonio Conte and Roberto Mancini were the leading candidates, but notes Conte has slipped out of the first row while Mancini enjoys a solid bond with Malagò. The shifting preferences highlight the uncertainty surrounding the role.

Andrea Pirlo and Pep Guardiola have also been linked with the Italy job, though securing a deal with the former Manchester City boss could prove financially tricky for the federation. Their potential involvement underscores the high profile of the vacancy.
Maldini, Leonardo and Malagò are expected to agree on a shortlist today, and the final appointment for the ITALY head coach role should be confirmed by next week. The trio's decision will set the direction for Italy's upcoming campaigns.
