Malmö FF boost title push with Iceland winger Hlín Eiríksdóttir

Malmö FF have secured the services of Icelandic international winger Hlín Eiríksdóttir from English Women’s Super League side Leicester City. The 26‑year‑old arrives after a season‑and‑a‑half in the Midlands and a recent loan spell with Italian club Fiorentina, bringing extensive European experience to the Swedish champions.

Eiríksdóttir has earned more than 50 caps for Iceland, showcasing a wealth of international experience. She previously featured for Kristianstads DFF, Piteå IF and Valur, giving her familiarity with Swedish football.

Malmö FF currently sit third in the Damallsvenskan, level on points with AIK. The club is chasing Hammarby and BK Häcken for a coveted UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying spot.

Eiríksdóttir said, “There were too many reasons why I should choose Malmö FF for me not to do so. It is a huge and cool club with great conditions and facilities.” She added that she likes the way the team plays and felt informed after speaking with coaches and watching matches.

Returning to Sweden will be her third stint with a Swedish side, a factor she highlighted as decisive. She explained, “It also feels very good to move to Sweden. I had great periods in both Piteå and Kristianstads and I think this move suits me well.”

Malmö FF gain a versatile winger to strengthen their push for European competition. Leicester City lose a player with proven experience in multiple leagues, while Eiríksdóttir returns to a familiar environment to continue her international career.
