Man United reject Barcelona, Atletico interest in Sesko
Manchester United have made clear that Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko is not for sale, rejecting interest from Spanish giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, after his 11‑goal second‑half of the 2026 Premier League season and a £70 million arrival last summer.
Sesko joined Manchester United for more than £70 million last summer. His first months were marked by adaptation challenges, limited opportunities and fluctuating form.
The arrival of Michael Carrick as manager changed the dynamic. Carrick quickly placed his faith in Sesko, prompting the striker to deliver a string of impressive performances in the second half of the season.
Sesko finished the second half of the 2026 Premier League campaign with 11 goals, the highest tally among all players in that period. He achieved this despite starting only 17 league matches.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have both examined Sesko as a potential signing amid uncertainty over Julian Alvarez. Atletico’s interest is also linked to concerns about Alexander Sorloth’s possible departure. A source quoted the clubs as saying, “Sesko is among the names being studied should their pursuit of Alvarez ultimately fail.”
Manchester United have repeatedly made clear that the striker is not for sale, with a club statement reading, “We understand Man Utd’s position is unequivocal: Sesko is not available.” The club’s search for additional attacking options is reportedly tied to Joshua Zirkzee’s expected departure rather than any doubt about Sesko’s role. United view the Slovenian as a cornerstone of their future project.
