Manchester City confident of renewing Josko Gvardiol contract
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City are increasingly confident of securing Josko Gvardiol’s long‑term future after presenting him with an improved contract proposal. Barcelona’s €80 million offer for the Croatian defender now appears unlikely to materialise.
Barcelona experienced defensive issues throughout the 2025/26 campaign and were using the transfer market to address them. The club had linked Gvardiol as a target and prepared an €80 million bid. Real Madrid also showed interest, meaning neither La Liga giant is expected to sign him this summer.
Manchester City’s improved terms aim to strip away uncertainty and protect the asset. The Premier League champions, now under Enzo Maresca, have the resources to tie Gvardiol to a fresh contract.
Should Gvardiol sign the new deal, Barcelona will need to identify alternative defenders. Deco will search for options to bolster the backline for Hansi Flick.
