Manchester City’s £120m-plus bid for Elliot Anderson sparks market fears
Premier League clubs fear that Manchester City’s £106 million bid plus £15 million in bonuses for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson could inflate the summer transfer market. Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has called the offer unacceptable.
Marinakis is reportedly demanding full upfront payment for a fee that could reach around £130 million. City’s willingness to meet a £120 million‑plus price for a 23‑year‑old who has not played in European competition is being closely watched.
Anderson’s recent England performances, including a man‑of‑the‑match display in a friendly win over Costa Rica, have bolstered Forest’s negotiating position. Thomas Tuchel’s side is preparing for a June 17 opener against Croatia.
Matt Law of The Daily Telegraph reported an industry insider warning that Anderson’s move could make the market more difficult for rival clubs. Director of football Hugo Viana is simultaneously targeting players in other positions, adding complexity to City’s recruitment.
Incoming manager Enzo Maresca must consider the uncertainty around Anderson as he finalises pre‑season plans for the 2026‑27 campaign. The potential deal’s outcome may shape City’s transfer strategy this summer.
