Manchester City Target Newcastle Midfielder Sandro Tonali

Manchester City are in talks to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also linked to the Italy international, journalist Ben Jacobs reported on X. Tonali, 26, has three goals and seven assists in 53 matches for the Magpies this season and his contract runs until summer 2028.

Tonali is praised for his tackling ability and his sense of positioning, allowing him to win back possession efficiently. He also combines a tidy passing range with the capacity to strike from distance, contributing both goals and assists.

Primarily deployed as a holding midfielder, Tonali can also shift into a box‑to‑box role when instructed by his manager. This versatility adds tactical flexibility for any team that secures his services.

Having amassed extensive Premier League experience with Newcastle United, Tonali is expected to adapt quickly to Manchester City’s system. His physicality and work rate are seen as assets that will add bite and steel to the midfield.

At 26, Tonali is entering the peak phase of his career, making him a strategic target for City in the current transfer window. The club believes his presence will bolster their chances of securing major honours in the coming seasons.

Tonali represented Italy in the FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers knockout play‑offs against Northern Ireland on 26 March 2026 in Bergamo. The match photograph was captured by Marco Luzzani for Getty Images.
