Marco Schikora signs new deal with Vitesse until 2028
Midfielder Marco Schikora, 31, has committed his future to Vitesse by signing a contract extension that runs until the summer of 2028, after his previous deal expired earlier this month. The German playmaker logged 37 appearances, six goals and two assists this season.
Schikora told Vitesse’s official channels that it was a "beautiful day" for him. He added that he had "enjoyed the past season at Vitesse", felt the club was like home and wanted to help build its future.
Head coach Rüdiger Rehm described Marco as an "example for the group". Rehm highlighted Schikora’s responsibility, his assistance to young players and his week‑in‑week‑out professionalism.
The club confirmed the extension through its official communication channels, often referred to by supporters as the Arnhemmers. The new deal ties Schikora to Vitesse until the summer of 2028.
Vitesse secured Schikora on a free transfer in September after he departed Sandhausen two months earlier. His contract with Sandhausen had expired, allowing the German midfielder to join the Arnhem side without a fee.
Since his arrival, Schikora has become a regular fixture in Rehm’s midfield. His presence has been noted for shaping play and supporting the team’s tactical setup.
