Maresca vows Manchester City will be his last stop

🇬🇧
Enzo Maresca, 46, announced in his first interview as Manchester City’s new first‑team manager that he intends to remain at the Etihad Stadium for the rest of his top‑level managerial career, describing the club’s size and recent decade of success as a “huge challenge” he wants to carry forward. Maresca previously guided Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad to trophy success before serving as first‑team assistant during the historic 2022/23 Treble‑winning campaign. A financial settlement with Chelsea was finalised to secure his release as head coach. Sporting Director Hugo Viana acted with precision to appoint Maresca as the successor to Pep Guardiola, who departed earlier this summer. The Italian’s third stint at the club underscores his familiarity with the Etihad environment. Maresca explained the scale of the task during his inaugural interview as Manchester City manager. “It’s a huge challenge, for many reasons. All the success over the last 10 to 15 years, but at the same moment it’s a nice challenge,” he said. He emphasized his desire to make the Etihad his final professional stop. “This is the third time I am working here at City – hopefully it’s the last time I come back and I don’t leave anymore!” Maresca added. Manchester City have already committed a club‑record £116 million package to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who completed his medical at the England training base in Kansas City over the weekend. Anderson’s arrival adds depth to a squad already described as strong. The club’s summer schedule includes a pre‑season tour of Asia, with a summer exhibition kick‑off on August 1 against Inter Milan in Hong Kong and South Korea. City are believed to be targeting a new right‑back, with Chelsea’s Malo Gusto named among the shortlist, while a second major objective is midfield signing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, a player also pursued by Tottenham.
