Mbappe: I gave my all at Real Madrid, eyes World Cup

🇫🇷 yesterday
Kylian Mbappe said he gave his all at Real Madrid as he heads into the World Cup 2026, noting a serious injury that disrupted his final season. The French forward, who has already scored four goals in the tournament, is now focused on helping France chase a second World Cup title. Mbappe opened the tournament with a brace against Iraq, adding to his earlier two‑goal performance versus Senegal. His four goals place him just behind Lionel Messi in the competition’s all‑time scoring list. After the Iraq match, Mbappe spoke to the media and reflected on his previous club season, saying, “I did everything I could at Real Madrid, but everyone knows I had a serious injury. Then I recovered, gradually regained my fitness, and returned in the same physical and mental condition, trying to arrive in good shape. But this is just the beginning, and we know we still have many things to improve.” In his last campaign with the white club, Mbappe netted 42 goals in 44 appearances and provided seven assists. Twenty‑five of those strikes came in La Liga, earning him a second Pichichi award in Spain. A late‑season injury denied him the Golden Boot, which was claimed by Harry Kane for the 2025‑26 season. The injury came after he had already secured the Pichichi, highlighting the timing of his setback. Mbappe said his priority is the World Cup, where he hopes to add a second global trophy to his résumé. He believes his form at the tournament will be decisive for France’s chances. Real Madrid will return under new manager Jose Mourinho, who replaces Alvaro Arbeloa. Among the incoming players is Ibrahima Konate, Mbappe’s teammate from the French national side, now expected to join the Merengue squad.
