Messi takes Cup Soccer to Eldense as president says goodbye
Lionel Messi celebrates the victory in the Cup Soccer with Inter Miami and, at the same time, prepares to take ownership of Eldense, a club that celebrates 105 years of history; meanwhile, president Carolina Holguín announces her departure after a season of promotions.
Messi's triumph with Inter Miami
The Argentine forward won the Cup Soccer by defeating his rivals with Inter Miami, adding another trophy to his record. Following the success, the Spanish club Eldense, which competes in LaLiga Hypermotion, confirmed that Messi will be its next owner, a development that has surprised the Spanish football community.
"I leave it in the best hands," Holguín said, urging the world champion with Argentina at Qatar 2022 to take care of and respect what Eldense means to its people. The president emphasized that the club's future "can be extraordinary" under Messi's stewardship.
Alberto Boal of EFE reported that Eldense president Carolina Holguín issued a statement today, Thursday, after the club announced that she will no longer serve as its top executive. The statement celebrated the arrival of Leo Messi as the new owner.
Carolina Holguín's farewell and Eldense's vision
Holguín explained that, after acquiring her shares from Pascual Pérez, she has led the club for a year and that her departure is due to Messi's arrival. She thanked those who "sweated the shirt" and the coaches who enabled the promotions of the first team, the reserve team, and the women's team.
"For me, being able to hand over today the baton of this club is a huge pride and, above all, gives me peace of mind that I leave it in the best hands," the director said. She added that she considers Lionel Messi "the greatest living legend of world football."
Eldense, with more than a hundred years of history and 105 years celebrated this year, has a city that lives it, suffers it, and loves it. Holguín asked Messi to "take care of it, respect what it means to its people, and bring great dreams to Elda."
In her words, the project's goal is "the sky," and she noted that her tenure at the club has not been easy, with difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions. However, those decisions, according to her, have led them to the present.
Holguín also thanked the Elda City Council and mayor Rubén Alfaro, describing them as a key component, and praised sponsors, media, and club staff. She acknowledged the support that enabled the consolidation of the teams and the continuity of the project.
To her detractors she replied that their doubts forced her to work harder, and quoted EFE saying that "Messi's involvement has been essential for me to come" and that "He should win the Ballon d'Or, there is no one else like him." She urged the women of Elda to believe in their strength and the boys and girls of the academy to never stop dreaming, pursuing their goals with their hearts.
