Michele Kang to acquire sole majority stake in Lyon

American businesswoman Michele Kang will become the sole majority shareholder of Olympique Lyonnais after reaching an agreement with creditor Ares and liquidator Cork Gully, the club announced on Tuesday. The deal commits Kang to inject up to €71 million (€75 million including transaction costs) into the group.

The holding company that controls Olympique Lyonnais holds roughly 87 per cent of the club’s shares. Kang’s agreement with Ares and Cork Gully will increase her ownership stake.

The transaction will only be completed once the National Directorate for Financial Control (DNCG) clears Olympique Lyonnais to remain in Ligue 1. The regulator’s decision is expected in the coming days.

If the deal proceeds, Olympique Lyonnais will exit the Eagle Football group and revert to the OL Groupe structure. The company will continue to be listed on the stock exchange.

The club, known as Les Rouge et Bleu, currently competes in Ligue 1. Maintaining top‑flight status is a prerequisite for finalising the investment.

Michele Kang, a 67‑year‑old American businesswoman, has pledged to inject up to €71 million (€75 million including transaction costs) into the group. The commitment underscores her long‑term financial plan for the Rhône‑based club.

Léo Aschi is listed among the contributors to the club’s official release. His name appears in the byline of the announcement.
