Mijnans leaves AZ for PSV in €15m midfield coup

PSV Eindhoven have agreed a €15 million deal to sign AZ Alkmaar captain Sven Mijnans, who will undergo a medical on Monday. The move comes as PSV prepare for the new Eredivisie season after losing Ismael Saibari to Bayern Munich. Mijnans, 26, arrives as a proven goalscoring midfielder with a strong Eredivisie pedigree.

AZ Alkmaar will lose a player who has been their captain and a consistent performer in central midfield. Mijnans progressed through Sparta Rotterdam’s academy before making his senior debut in 2020/21. He made 86 appearances for Sparta, scoring eight goals, before joining AZ in January 2023.

His breakthrough season came in 2024/25, when he contributed 11 goals and eight assists across all competitions. The following campaign, 2025/26, saw him reach new heights: 50 appearances, 21 goals, and nine assists from midfield. PSV view him as a direct replacement for Saibari’s attacking output while adding another top-tier talent to a squad that dominated the Eredivisie last season.

Ajax were also reported to have tracked Mijnans, making his switch to PSV a setback for the Amsterdam club. PSV’s move underscores their ambition to retain the title and strengthen a squad already considered the league’s strongest heading into the new campaign.
