Mohamed Salah lifts Egypt after 3-1 World Cup win
Mohamed Salah celebrated on the streets of Vancouver after Egypt secured a 3-1 victory over New Zealand in Group G, delivering the nation its first ever World Cup win. The win came after a dramatic comeback that saw Egypt overturn a 15‑minute deficit with goals from Mostafa Ziko, Salah and Trezeguet.
Finn Surman opened the scoring for New Zealand in the 15th minute. Mostafa Ziko equalised for Egypt near the hour mark, restoring parity.
Mohamed Salah then netted to put Egypt ahead, flipping the match in their favour. Trezeguet added a late strike eight minutes from time to seal the 3‑1 result.

Egypt remain the most successful African nation with seven Africa Cup of Nations titles. During Salah’s tenure the Pharaohs have finished runners‑up twice and returned to the World Cup in 2018 after a 28‑year absence, having previously been winless in 1990 and 1934. Egypt now sit top of Group G after also drawing with Belgium in their opener. Their final group match is scheduled against Iran on Saturday 27 June in Seattle, offering a chance to reach the knockout stage for the first time.
