Monaco's midfield rebuild: why Aymen Assab skips PSG's elite

🇫🇷

AS Monaco are looking to refresh a midfield that has seen recent departures, and the club has moved to sign two of Paris Saint‑Germain's top youth prospects. The moves, reported by L’Équipe, include the signing of Emmanuel Mbemba, the PSG U18 captain, and 17‑year‑old Aymen Assab.

Monaco will add both Emmanuel Mbemba and Aymen Assab to their ranks, securing the French midfielder after a period of interest from the Principality side. The two signings reflect a clear strategy to import proven youth talent from a domestic rival.

Assab has not yet made a first‑team appearance for Les Parisiens, but his performances at youth level have drawn high praise. He notably impressed in the UEFA Youth League last season, showcasing the skill that attracted Monaco's attention.

Paris Saint‑Germain attempted to retain the midfielder, even offering him a first professional contract, yet he chose to leave the club. The decision underscores his desire for a clearer pathway to senior football.

The France U19 international has already signed his contract with the Principality club, and rather than join the Groupe Élite youth side, he is expected to be thrust straight into the professional set‑up. This direct promotion signals Monaco's confidence in his readiness.

The professional set‑up is expected to be managed by Filipe Luis, whose arrival has yet to be officialised by Monaco. Luis’s potential involvement adds another layer to the midfielder’s integration plan.

Luke Entwistle reported the development, confirming the details of the transfer and the expected role for Assab at Monaco.
