Napoli's Lukaku exit hinges on €10m fee and €12.5m salary
SSC Napoli have opened the door to a departure for 33‑year‑old striker Romelu Lukaku, stating that a club willing to meet a €10 million transfer fee could secure his services. The Belgian forward, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2024, is also demanding a €12.5 million annual salary.
Napoli acquired Lukaku from Chelsea for roughly €30 million, a fee that reflected his reputation after a prolific spell in the Premier League. The deal marked Napoli's biggest investment in a forward since 2022.
In his inaugural season, the striker helped Napoli clinch the Serie A title, delivering key goals and performances. His contributions included several decisive matches that secured the championship.
The following campaign proved far more difficult as persistent injuries limited his appearances, leaving him on the sidelines for most of the season. Medical reports indicated recurring muscle strains that hampered his training.
During his rehabilitation, Lukaku reportedly clashed with Napoli officials after he continued his recovery in Belgium while on national team duty, a move that displeased the Italian side. The dispute was eventually resolved, but the episode strained relations between player and club.
Napoli have indicated willingness to facilitate a transfer, but insist on a minimum €10 million fee, while Lukaku's salary expectations of €12.5 million per year remain a sticking point. Napoli hope that a buyer willing to meet both the fee and salary demands will emerge before the summer window closes.
Lukaku has previously expressed a wish to finish his career at RSC Anderlecht, yet his manager recently dismissed the prospect of a summer return as unrealistic. Lukaku's agent confirmed that no formal offer from Anderlecht has been made.
Nevertheless, the Belgian forward attracts interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States, suggesting potential destinations beyond Europe. If a deal materialises, it could see the striker leave Serie A for a new market.
