Napoli's price tag on Vergara tests Como's search for a Paz replacement

Napoli have made clear they will not part with midfielder Antonio Vergara for a modest sum, insisting any offer must exceed €30 million as Como search for a replacement for Nico Paz after Real Madrid exercised their buy‑back option this summer in the Serie A. Sky Sport's Gianluca Di Marzio, via AreaNapoli, reported that Como sporting director Carlalberto Ludi has sounded out Napoli about Vergara as the club seeks affordable Italian talent. Vergara was one of Napoli's standout performers last season and attracted interest from Tottenham, Roma and Atalanta earlier this summer. Napoli's position remains firm; the club will only sell for an "unmissable" offer and describes the asking price as "fuori mercato", above standard market value. Como are also exploring an alternative in Mattia Liberali, the former AC Milan youngster who carries a €6 million release clause at Catanzaro, offering a more accessible operation. The Liberali option may ultimately prove the more realistic route for Fabregas as he rebuilds his squad for the Champions League. A photo caption notes that Mattia Liberali of AC Milan reacted during a pre‑season friendly between AC Milan and Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 31, 2024.
