Netherlands Train Full Squad Ahead of Algeria Friendly

🇳🇱

The Netherlands national team trained on Tuesday with a fully fit World Cup squad ahead of the friendly against Algeria on Wednesday evening at De Kuip. Coach Ronald Koeman oversaw the session. The match is the final warm‑up before the World Cup.

Only Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber missed the training. He returned from a hamstring injury in the Champions League final last Saturday and will join the squad after Thursday’s match. Defender Denzel Dumfries also sits out, serving a suspension after a red card in the recent friendly against Ecuador.

Left‑back Ian Maatsen and midfielder Lutsharel Geertruida remain in the group for the Algeria game. Both are listed as World Cup reserves and can be called up up to a day before the opening match on 14 June if a player is injured or ill.

Algeria will field two Eredivisie players: Anis Hadj Moussa of Feyenoord and Ramiz Zerrouki of FC Twente. Their inclusion highlights the African side’s Dutch league connections.

After the friendly, the Netherlands will travel to New York for a training camp and a friendly against Uzbekistan on 8 June. The World Cup campaign begins on 14 June with a Group E match against Japan in Dallas.

Earlier today the squad numbers for the tournament were released. Midfielder Marten de Roon will wear number 3, while defender Jan‑Paul van Hecke will wear number 6, a number traditionally assigned to midfielders.
