Netherlands' round‑of‑16 foes set: Brazil or Morocco

The Dutch national team now knows which opponents await them in the World Cup round of 16, depending on whether they finish first or second in their group. A second‑place finish would pit them against Brazil, while topping the group would see them meet Morocco, who beat Haiti 4‑2. Before the tournament it was clear that a top‑two finish would pair the Netherlands with the winner or runner‑up of Group C, comprising Brazil, Morocco, Scotland and Haiti. Wednesday night the final matches in Group C were played, confirming Brazil as group winners after a 0‑3 victory over Scotland. Consequently, a second‑place finish for the Dutch side would pair them with Brazil in the round of 16. If the Netherlands win their group, they will meet Morocco, which secured a 4‑2 win over Haiti. Thursday night (01:00 Dutch time) the Netherlands face Tunisia in their final group match, while Japan, level on points, plays Sweden. The outcomes of the Netherlands‑Tunisia and Japan‑Sweden games will decide whether the Dutch team meets Brazil, Morocco, or another opponent in the knockout stage. Should the Netherlands slip to third place, they will have to await the remaining group‑stage results before learning their round‑of‑16 opponent.
