Nico Schlotterbeck out for weeks after torn ankle ligament at World Cup
Centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck was forced off at half‑time in Germany’s 2‑1 victory over Ivory Coast after injuring his ankle, and a subsequent MRI confirmed a torn ligament that will keep him sidelined for several weeks, effectively ending his World Cup campaign.
The injury occurred during Germany’s second group‑stage match of the World Cup against Ivory Coast. Schlotterbeck, playing as a centre‑back, was substituted at the interval.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann later explained that there was “something with the medial ligament” and that an MRI would be required to determine the severity. He added that a clear timetable could only be given after the scan.
