Nieuwe contract talks keep Memphis Depay's future in limbo

🇳🇱 By 4All Football Editorial ·
The current deal expires at the end of this year, leaving Memphis Depay in the middle of fresh contract talks. Nieuwe update the Dutch striker is negotiating a new deal with Brazilian side Corinthians, and his trainer Fernando Diniz told reporters, “We are still in negotiations.” Depay is now in his third season at Corinthians, having joined the club after a globe‑trotting career that included PSV, Manchester United, Olympique Lyon, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. He remains the all‑time top scorer for the Dutch national team and the Oranje. “I hope it ends well and that he stays with us,” Diniz said after a friendly match, adding that “the ball is not in my hands, but it is great to have him here.” The coach stressed that a positive outcome is the aim for both player and club. The striker is currently on holiday in Brazil after the World Cup, where the Oranje were eliminated by Morocco in a penalty shoot‑out. Diniz said he expects Depay to return to Corinthians once his break is over. Corinthians are keen to retain their star forward, whose presence has boosted the Brazilian side’s attacking options. A renewed contract would secure Depay’s services beyond the current expiry and signal the club’s ambition. Across Europe, clubs are monitoring the situation as high‑profile Dutch internationals navigate contract renewals, highlighting the broader market dynamics after the World Cup. The outcome could influence future moves for players linked with clubs such as PSV and Manchester United.
